Monodromy and geometric phases in classical and quantum mechanics

The workshop on Monodromy and geometric phases in classical and quantum mechanics took place June 15-19 2009 at the Lorentz Center in Leiden.

I enjoyed preparing the workshop and bringing together people from different fields. The talks were great and I would like to thank the speakers for making this workshop a success. My coorganizers Jonathan Robbins, Dmitrií Sadovskií, and Holger Waalkens shared the weight. And I would like to thank also Martje Kruk and Gerda Filippo from the Lorentz Center for taking care of all the practical aspects of the workshop. Without their assistance I would have gone crazy.

Luminy talk

On May 12 2009 I give a talk in the conference Singularities of Planar Vector Fields, Bifurcations and Applications on «Hamiltonian monodromy». The conference is organized by Pavao Mardesic and Christiane Rousseau.

Barcelona visit and talk

Between 22-24 April 2009 I visit the group of Carles Simò in Barcelona. I will give a presentation in the UB-UPC DSG Seminar on «The hydrogen atom in electric and magnetic fields».

The hydrogen atom in the 1:1 resonance zone

The paper with Olga Lukina and Dmitrií Sadovskií on «Complete classification of qualitatively different perturbations of the hydrogen atom in weak near orthogonal electric and magnetic fields» has been accepted for publication in Journal of Physics A.

A handy bookmarklet

At RuG we have access to several academic journals. From inside the university network this access is transparent. When outside I must first authenticate through a proxy server. The latter is sometimes inconvenient. For example if I’m at home and find a paper through Google, then in order to access the PDF I should go to the RuG journals list and search again. Although this doesn’t take long it is somewhat inconvenient.

The hydrogen atom in 1:2 resonance

The paper with Olga Lukina and Dmitrií Sadovskií on «Most typical 1:2 resonant perturbation of the hydrogen atom by weak electric and magnetic fields» has been accepted for publication in Physical Review Letters.

Conference on the occasion of the thesis defense of Olga Lukina

On September 25 we are organizing an one-day conference on the occasion of the thesis defense of Olga Lukina. Olga has completed her thesis on «Geometry of torus bundles in integrable Hamiltonian systems».

Talk in Dynamics Days Europe 2008

On August 26 I presented the work with Dmitrií Sadovskií and Olga Lukina on the hydrogen atom in electric and magnetic fields during the Hamiltonian systems session of the Dynamics Days Europe 2008 conference that took place in TU Delft. The Hamiltonian systems session was organized by Henk Broer.

Talk in 5th European Congress of Mathematics

Last week I presented the work with Henk Broer and Easwar Subramanian on pulse coupled oscillator networks during the mini-symposium «Coupled Cell Networks» in the 5th European Congress of Mathematics . The mini-symposium was organized by Peter Ashwin, Ana Dias, and Jeroen Lamb.

Heteroclinic cycles between unstable attractors

The paper with Henk Broer and Easwar Subramanian on «Heteroclinic cycles between unstable attractors» has been accepted for publication in Nonlinearity.

Bernoulliborg

Dijon

Between 25 and 28 November I will visit the Institut Carnot de Bourgogne at Dijon and I will give a seminar on «Standard and fractional monodromy in physical systems».

Update: The visit has been postponed to January.
